$10 MILLION INVESTMENT TO REVITALIZE FORT HENRY HISTORICAL SITE

McGuinty Government Enhancing Tourism Along The St. Lawrence Corridor

NEWS

Fort Henry, a vital component of tourism in Eastern Ontario, contributes to the economic prosperity of many communities along the St. Lawrence River and particularly the Kingston area. Giving visitors more reasons to visit Fort Henry National Historical Site, Ontario will invest $10 million to increase its tourist appeal by:

  • Constructing a state-of-the-art visitor centre to take advantage of Fort Henry’s UNESCO World Heritage status.
  • Enhancing Sunset Ceremonies – an exciting event that recreates the battle tactics of over a century ago – with 21st century technology.
  • Upgrading its retail outlet to make it more appealing to visitors.

This announcement is part of a $23 million investment in the St. Lawrence Parks Commission – an agency of the Ontario government -- to improve the quality of its attractions and to make the local tourism industry more competitive in these challenging economic times.
