BARRIE — The McGuinty government is helping to market and expand the 4th Annual Canadian BBQ Championships, July 6-8, through an investment of $60,625, Jim Bradley, Minister of Tourism announced today.
“The Celebrate Ontario program is helping community organizations market festivals and events more effectively, and create new experiences that will attract greater audiences,” said Bradley. “Festivals and events increase tourism, bringing new visitors to communities across Ontario, and contribute to a strong and prosperous economy.”
The $4-million Celebrate Ontario program supports the growth of existing festivals and events by funding new marketing and programming enhancements. The Ontario Tourism Event Marketing Partnership Program is providing an additional $500,000.
“These funds will help us achieve in one year what would have taken us three years,” said Kirk Sharpley, Canadian Barbecue Association President. For the first time we have teams coming from Switzerland, England, Florida, and British Columbia. We would not have been ready to receive these teams without the assistance of the Celebrate Ontario program.”
Since October 2003, the McGuinty government has invested more than $15 million to market Ontario’s festivals and events.
“Our government is a proud supporter of festivals, events and attractions that boost tourism in all four seasons,” said Bradley. “Supporting such events gives a substantial economic boost to our area, and a memorable experience for our visitors.”
