“The Ontario government is pleased to support festivals, events and attractions that boost tourism,” said Bradley. “Supporting events like the Ontario Timberfest Championships provides an economic boost to our communities, and a memorable experience for our visitors.”
Now in its 15th year, the Ontario Timberfest Championships are being held in Minden on June 9. Competitors from across Ontario, Quebec and the United States will participate in a skills competition using chainsaws, axes, and Swedish saws. The event also features an evening performance of country music.
"Timberfest is very excited to receive this grant from the Ministry of Tourism,” said Ann Lavery, tourism facilitator for the Haliburton Highlands visitor information centre. “The extra funds for marketing will be extremely beneficial in helping us reach new audiences.”
The Ontario Timberfest Championships is among a number of events and festivals supported by the Ontario government. Marketing support for these events encourages increased tourism and strengthens Ontario's tourism industry by assisting local organizations to promote their events to the people of Ontario and beyond.
“A healthy tourism industry supports Ontario’s high quality of life,” said Bradley. “Festivals and events increase tourism, bringing new visitors to communities across Ontario, contributing to a strong and prosperous economy.”
