A significant capital investment from Ontario will help increase tourism along the St. Lawrence corridor.
The St. Lawrence Parks Commission – an agency of the Ontario government – is an important catalyst for tourism in Eastern Ontario and contributes to the economic prosperity of many communities along the St. Lawrence River. Ontario is investing $2.24 million to improve the infrastructure of its attractions. The new funding will ensure the St. Lawrence Parks Commission’s attractions are in good repair and will encourage new and repeat visitors to the area in the future.
This funding will support key investments including campground upgrades, repairs to the heritage buildings in Upper Canada Village, and site maintenance at Fort Henry.
“Investing in our tourism infrastructure is critical to providing high quality tourist attractions in Eastern Ontario. Our government is proud to support the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, which helps it remain competitive in the global tourism market,” said Tourism Minister Peter Fonseca.
“By maintaining and improving the infrastructure in the Parks of the St. Lawrence, we are helping to ensure the economic prosperity of the communities that rely on these attractions as tourism anchors in Eastern Ontario,” said Peter Watson, Chair of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission.
"This funding will improve the park facilities for our visitors and help ensure the local tourism industry remains strong," said Jim Brownell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.
