
OTTAWA — The McGuinty government’s is helping increase tourism by investing $93,750 in the Capital Magic Festival, the only magic festival in North America and part of Ottawa’s Super EX, Tourism Minister Jim Bradley announced today.
“Festivals and events like the Capital Magic Festival increase tourism, bring new visitors to communities across Ontario and contribute to a strong and prosperous economy,” said Bradley.
The Capital Magic Festival takes place August 17 and 18. The Ontario government’s investment comes from the $4-million Celebrate Ontario program, which supports the growth of existing festivals and events by funding new marketing and programming enhancements.
“The Capital Magic Festival boasts the largest number of magicians ever to appear for the public in Canada at one time,” said Joe Pavia, the event’s programming and marketing manager. “With more than 70 magic shows and affordable hotel packages, the festival offers an exciting travel experience for the entire family."
“The Super Ex has always been a fun highlight of summer here in Ottawa,” said Phil McNeely, MPP, Ottawa-Orléans. “Now, with this festival, the Super Ex is truly magical! I want to congratulate everyone who is participating in this event.”
Since October 2003, the McGuinty government has invested more than $15 million to market Ontario’s festivals and events.
“Our government is a pleased to support festivals, events and attractions that boost tourism year-round,” said Bradley. “Supporting such events gives a substantial economic boost to local communities and a memorable experience for our visitors.”
