Ontario is helping to enhance and improve the Village of Lafontaine’s Festival du Loup in order to attract even more visitors to the Penetang-Midland area.
The province is investing over $31,000 to support the enhancement of this Franco-Ontarian celebration, which will help to boost the local economy by attracting new audiences and generating more economic activity in the community.
This funding is part of the Celebrate Ontario 2009 program, which is providing $11 million to 224 festivals and events across Ontario. This investment – $2 million more than the $9 million originally announced – recognizes the important economic benefits these events have for local communities.
Festival du Loup, which runs from July 17-19, 2009, includes outdoor family events, historical and genealogicaldisplays and evening musical performances.
"Festival du Loup offers tourists and Ontarians a great opportunity to explore the arts while celebrating Franco-Ontarian language and heritage. I am proud that our government’s support of this cultural festival will provide Ontario families with yet another great destination to discover right in their own ‘backyard’ this summer.”
- Monique Smith, Minister of Tourism
"Festival du Loup is a wonderful celebration of French Canadian heritage in the Lafontaine area. Festivals such as this one add vibrancy to our communities and are vital contributors to our local economies as well as Ontario's."
- Aileen Carroll, Minister of Culture
“With this Celebrate Ontario funding Festival du Loup aims to improve the overall technical infrastructure for our weekend activities in order to offer a more professional image and enhance the diversity of our program by offering more rural activities and a farmer’s market."
– Martin Lalonde, Chair, Festival du Loup
