ORILLIA — The McGuinty government is helping promote the Leacock Summer Festival through an investment of $3,000 for print advertising, Tourism Minister Jim Bradley announced today.
“The Ontario government is pleased to support the Leacock Summer Festival which will boost tourism in Orillia,” said Bradley. “Supporting festivals, events and attractions provides an economic boost to communities across the province, and memorable experiences for our visitors.”
Running July 17 to 22 in Orillia, the Leacock Summer Festival features more than 26 authors reading from their original literary works. Poetry, non-fiction, literacy scholarship and children’s literature are among the genres that will be showcased.
“The Leacock Summer Festival is in its sixth year and the work of identifying and attracting new audiences is key to the success of the event,” said Fred Addis, the event’s producer. “With the support of the Ministry of Tourism, we’re able to reach far beyond our region and get the word out about Ontario’s largest summer literary event.”
The Leacock Summer Festival is among dozens of events and festivals supported by the Ontario government. Marketing support for these events encourages increased tourism and strengthens Ontario's tourism industry by assisting local organizations to promote their events to the people of Ontario and beyond.
“A healthy tourism industry supports Ontario’s high quality of life,” said Bradley. “Festivals and events increase tourism, bringing new visitors to communities across Ontario, contributing to a strong and prosperous economy.
