At the North by Northeast opening ceremonies, Minister Smith announced that the Tourism Ministry is supporting the five day festival with a $200,000 grant through the Celebrate Ontario program. Celebrate Ontario is investing $11 million to support 224 festivals and events across the province this year. |

| The 15th annual North by Northeast music and film festival commenced with the ceremonial “strumming of the guitar” by event mascot “Sketchy.” Minister Smith presented “Sketchy” with the guitar for the strum. NXNE, which ran June 17 to 21, featured more than 500 concerts and events across Toronto, including four nights of free concerts at Yonge Dundas Square which were paid for in part by the $200,000 grant from the Tourism Ministry’s Celebrate Ontario program to help festivals and events grow and attract larger audiences. |
